You get 30 days to try it. After that, it's a one-time $89 USD payment (or local equivalent) if you want to keep using your account.
Is this a monthly subscription?
No. AuthorsDrop deliberately uses a one-time price because we do not believe writers should have to keep paying simply to continue using their writing tool. Try it for 30 days, then pay once if you decide to stay.
Who is AuthorsDrop for?
Anyone working on a long piece of writing: novels, scripts, non-fiction, dissertations, theses, research papers. If your project has chapters or scenes that won't stay in one Word doc, it's probably a fit.
Can I write a novel in AuthorsDrop?
Yes. Chapters, scenes, character notes, and research can all live in one project.
Can I write non-fiction in AuthorsDrop?
Yes. Books, essays, guides, anything with sections you need to move around.
Can I write stage plays and screenplays?
Yes. There are script formats with scene headings, dialogue, action lines, and the usual screenplay/stage-play line types.
Can I use AuthorsDrop for academic writing?
Yes. People use it for dissertations and theses: draft chapters, stash research notes, keep sections in order. It's not a reference manager (use Zotero or similar for citations if your school requires that).
Can I use AuthorsDrop for a master's dissertation?
Yes. Same idea as a thesis: chapters, notes, and drafts in one binder.
Can I use AuthorsDrop for a doctoral thesis or dissertation?
Yes. Long projects are what the binder layout is for. Split work across chapters and keep research notes attached to the project.
Does AuthorsDrop manage references?
Not formally. You can keep research notes and sources in the project, but for citation styles and bibliographies you'll probably still want a dedicated reference tool.
Does AuthorsDrop work on Apple devices?

Does the app work on non-Apple devices?
The website works in Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari on Windows, Linux, and Android.
Do I need to install the app?
No. The website is the full app. Install Mac or iOS only if you want a native shell.

Same account, same projects, same editor features. Pick whichever device you're on.
Do I need technical knowledge to use AuthorsDrop?
No. If you've used a binder-style writing app before, most of it will feel familiar.
Can students use AuthorsDrop?

What project templates does AuthorsDrop include?

Each format can include tailored starter structure or writing guidance, and the Template Library explains what each one is for.
What happens after the free period?
You get 30 days free. After that, editing locks until you pay the one-time fee or redeem a friend code. Your files stay saved; nothing gets deleted. AuthorsDrop Press (prose export) is included in the trial and with lifetime access.
Can I upgrade before my free trial ends?
Yes. On the AuthorsDrop website and Mac app, the UPGRADE banner opens Billing so you can buy Lifetime Access whenever you are ready. Lifetime Access includes unlimited editing, Secure Sync across your devices, AuthorsDrop Press and all export formats. It is a one-time purchase with no subscription.
What is AuthorsDrop Press?

Where are my books stored?
Your working copy is saved on the device you are using first. AuthorsDrop Secure Sync then stores an encrypted synchronisation copy for your signed-in devices. You can also keep normal .bwrt project files in a computer folder as an extra backup. Projects are encrypted on your device before Secure Sync uploads them, so AuthorsDrop cannot read the stored manuscript.
Does AuthorsDrop have cloud sync?
Yes. AuthorsDrop includes Secure Sync for signed-in devices. Your work saves on the device you are using first, then an encrypted synchronisation copy is stored remotely so the same library can be used on web, Mac, iPhone and iPad. The encrypted synchronisation copy is managed by AuthorsDrop Secure Sync.
What is AuthorsDrop Secure Sync?
Secure Sync keeps encrypted copies of your projects available across your signed-in devices. Every edit is saved locally first, then the encrypted project synchronises. There is no permanent PC, Mac, iPhone or iPad master device. Keep your recovery code somewhere safe because it may be needed to unlock Secure Sync on a new or recovered device.
Can AuthorsDrop read my writing in Secure Sync?
No. Secure Sync uploads encrypted project data. AuthorsDrop stores the encrypted synchronisation copy but does not have the readable manuscript text.
What happens when I rename a project saved in a computer folder?
AuthorsDrop remembers which .bwrt filename belongs to that project. After the new filename saves successfully, it removes the previous filename associated with the same project instead of leaving an old Untitled copy behind.
How do I clean up old Untitled .bwrt files?
Open Storage and sync and choose Review project files. AuthorsDrop scans the connected folder, shows file details and flags identical or possible older Untitled copies. Nothing is deleted automatically. Select only the files you want to remove and confirm the deletion.
How do I set up saving and Secure Sync?
Sign in to AuthorsDrop and use Secure Sync for the cross-device library. Your writing saves on the current device first, then the encrypted project synchronises. On web or Mac you can also choose a computer folder for normal .bwrt files as an extra backup.
How do I keep my writing safe if I get a new computer?
On the new computer, sign in with the same AuthorsDrop account and unlock Secure Sync if prompted. Keep AuthorsDrop open while the encrypted library aligns to the new device, then confirm the expected projects are present and the status is Synced before you begin editing. A computer-folder .bwrt backup can also be reconnected as an extra local copy.
What is the safest way to move from iPhone or iPad to Mac, PC, or web?
Finish writing on the current device, wait until AuthorsDrop shows Synced, then open AuthorsDrop on the next device and let it finish synchronising before you type. This gives the next device the newest Secure Sync revision before it creates another change.
Which device has priority when I edit on more than one device?
No device has permanent priority. AuthorsDrop saves locally first, then Secure Sync tracks revisions. A device with an older revision pulls the newer remote revision before uploading. The latest successfully synchronised revision becomes the base for the next edit.
What happens if I edit the same book on two devices?
If the devices changed different documents, AuthorsDrop can merge those changes. If both independently changed the same document, AuthorsDrop does not silently discard one version: the current remote version remains the main document and the other changed version is preserved as a conflict copy for review.
Can I keep writing when I am offline?
Yes. AuthorsDrop saves edits locally on the current device first. When you reconnect, let Secure Sync finish before switching to another device. That is the safest way to make sure the next device receives your latest work.
What happens when I unlock Secure Sync on a new or recovered device?
AuthorsDrop aligns that device to your existing encrypted Secure Sync library before normal two-way synchronisation continues. Let the first alignment finish before editing. If unmatched local-only work must be protected, AuthorsDrop can preserve it separately as a recovery copy rather than uploading it over the established library.
Can I import from Word, Scrivener, or Final Draft?
Yes. In the app (https://www.authorsdrop.com), open My Books and click Import, or go to Save location → Import from another app. Supported: Word (.docx), Final Draft (.fdx), and a zipped Scrivener .scriv project (include the Files/Docs folder). How do I prepare a Scrivener project for import?
Zip the whole .scriv package - the binder plus Files/Docs - then choose that .zip in Import. A .scrivx binder file alone usually has no scene text. If the import looks empty, re-zip the full package and try again.
