My Books

Your library of projects. Search by title, sort by last edited, and filter by format (novel, screenplay, poetry, and the rest). Each book shows word count, tags, and save status. Create a new book, or import an existing one, from the same screen.

Binder

The left sidebar is your project outline. Add chapters (or acts), scenes, and character sheets from the binder toolbar. Double-click to rename, drag to reorder, and use Trash for items you remove. Select a folder to open its corkboard of scenes.

Editor

A focused writing area with a document title at the top and live word count, character count, and reading time at the bottom. Prose projects get a formatting toolbar: bold, italic, headings, lists, line spacing, text colour, and more. Typewriter mode pins the cursor mid-screen if you prefer that.

Chapters can open in Scrivenings view — all scenes on one continuous page with clear scene dividers — or you can edit a single scene.

Corkboard and Outline

Switch tabs above the editor. Corkboard shows scene cards (driven by each scene’s synopsis) so you can rearrange the story visually. Outline gives a compact list view of the same structure.

Inspector

The right panel holds metadata for the open document:

• Synopsis — short summary; appears on corkboard cards
• Notes — research, reminders, beats (never exported with the manuscript)
• Status — To Do, In Progress, Done, Needs Revision
• Label — colour-code scenes (POV, act, tension, whatever you use)
• Word goal — target count with a progress bar once set
• Document stats — words, characters, reading time (and estimated pages for scripts)
• Editor appearance — pick a writing font such as Georgia

The Inspector also has a Help tab: a collapsible quick-reference for Binder, World Building, and other features you can leave open while you work.

Script mode

Screenplays and stage plays use industry-style line types: scene headings (INT/EXT), Action, Character, parentheticals, Dialogue, and Transitions. Tab through line types as you write. The binder uses acts and scenes; Compile exports in Courier-style formatting.

World building (fantasy & sci-fi)

Fantasy and sci-fi projects include a World bible: worlds and lands (or planets), tech and magic, characters, factions, and lore on one overview page. Manuscript scenes stay in Corkboard; world-building cards live under World so research doesn’t clutter the draft.

Your files stay yours — including Dropbox

Manuscripts are never stored on AuthorsDrop servers. Save to a folder on your computer, or connect Dropbox in one click from Save location. No developer app to set up — sign in to Dropbox, click Allow, then Save now. Your books land in an AuthorsDrop folder as binder.json and .bwrt files you can open from any machine.

Import

Bring work from Word (.docx), Scrivener (zipped .scriv project), or Final Draft (.fdx). On My Books click Import, or use Save location → Import from another app. Help & Guide → Import walks through each format. Import creates a new book; your other projects stay put.

AuthorsDrop Press

For prose books: choose a book layout (for example epic/fantasy typography), trim size, chapter style (drop cap), headers, scene ornaments, and front matter (title page, copyright, contents). A live paginated preview updates as you change settings. Export EPUB or print-ready PDF. Available during your 30-day free trial and with lifetime access. Details on the Press page.

Compile and export

Compile Manuscript shows total words and scene count, then exports as plain text, Markdown, Word (.docx), chapter-formatted Word, or PDF. Chapter-formatted export adds clear headings and scene breaks for layout tools. Scripts use Courier New with standard indentation. PDF can also follow your chosen trim size and theme.
