AuthorsDrop Roadmap

AuthorsDrop is actively developed as a writing and publishing platform for novelists, non-fiction authors, screenwriters, playwrights, researchers and students. This roadmap shows the direction of the product rather than fixed release dates. Priorities can change as we learn from the writers using AuthorsDrop.

Apple App Store releases

We are completing the Mac, iPhone and iPad release work, including App Store review, purchase and restore flows, stability testing and the final details needed for dependable day-to-day use.

Secure Sync and cross-device consistency

AuthorsDrop Secure Sync is the encrypted cross-device library for web, Mac, iPhone and iPad. Current work is focused on making project alignment, saving, recovery, deletion and device switching predictable and consistent across the whole platform.

AuthorsDrop Press

Press is expanding the journey from finished manuscript to finished book. We are continuing work on professional print formatting, EPUB production, book styles, front and back matter, large-print options, series support and publication-ready output.

Publishing-platform preparation

We plan to make Press better at preparing books for services such as Amazon KDP, IngramSpark, Draft2Digital, Apple Books and Kobo. The direction includes platform-specific export checks, EPUB and print-PDF validation, metadata, ISBN and imprint information, pricing and territory worksheets, cover requirements and practical publishing checklists.

AuthorsDrop is not intended to take control of an author's publishing accounts or royalties. The aim is to prepare the book and its publishing information so the author can submit it confidently through the platform they choose.

Academic references

Thesis and dissertation writers need strong long-form structure without having to abandon established research tools. Planned academic work includes BibTeX and RIS import, reference organisation, citation placeholders, bibliography generation, common citation styles and better workflows with established reference managers such as Zotero and EndNote.

AuthorsDrop customer community

We plan a customer community for paid AuthorsDrop users: a cleaner place for practical questions, answers, product discussions and announcements without opening the door to the spam that often overwhelms unrestricted public forums.

Continued iPhone and iPad improvements

Mobile development will continue after the initial App Store releases, with the goal of making the parts of AuthorsDrop that matter while away from a desk increasingly consistent with the web and Mac experience.

Planned for Later

Stage and screenplay publishing tools

AuthorsDrop already supports stage and screen writing. Longer-term Press work will extend professional output for playwrights and screenwriters, including submission-ready formats and production-oriented material.

Beta-reader and editor sharing

We want authors to be able to share work for reading or review without giving somebody their AuthorsDrop password or access to the whole account. The first direction is controlled read-only sharing and comments rather than complicated real-time co-writing.

Series publishing enhancements

Series-level metadata, consistent styling and reusable publishing settings are part of the longer-term Press direction for authors publishing more than one related book.

Additional platform integrations

The browser remains the full cross-platform AuthorsDrop editor. We will continue to assess additional dedicated applications and integrations where they materially improve the writing or publishing workflow.

How we choose what comes next

Reliability comes before feature count. Work that protects manuscripts, improves Secure Sync, strengthens publishing output or removes unnecessary friction will normally take priority over adding features simply to make a longer list.

The roadmap will change as AuthorsDrop develops. Moving an item does not mean it has been abandoned; it means we are keeping the order flexible enough to respond to real use, platform requirements and the needs of writers.
